I have studied some French so I can speak but at a very low level and I am (when I have time) trying to learn Russian! I am interested to know, how similar are Russian, Ukrainian, Belorussian (if that is what their language is called) and Bulgarian? Will I be able to understand them if I know Russian? |
Russian is similar of course but it's not exactly the same thing. But it's easily for people who speak Bulgarian to understand and of course write Russian. The same alphabet, sound are similar.
Maybe one Bulgarian member can give you more informations _________________ My favourites gymnasts: Viktoria Mazur and Marina Durunda |

There are some words in Bulgarian and Russian that are similar and easy to understand (they are both Slavic languages after all ) but as a Bulgarian who hasn't studied Russian I can tell you that grammar and spelling are different so forget about writing in Bulgarian if you know Russian or vice versa, it will be wrong. Otherwise I can recognize some words in Russian that sound similar but it's nothing like Russian and Ukrainian which are basically one and the same language. |

I speak English, Swedish, and French.
And I'm ALMOST fluent in Russian.
But, this is nothing compared to my mother, she's fluent in :
Russian, German, Dutch, Danish, Italian, French, Ukrainian, Spanish, Swedish, Lithuanian, and Chinese. _________________ "What gives me confidence is the fact that everyone gets insecure" - Andrew Garfield |
