 The Greek Gymnastics Federation expresses its profound sadness at the sudden death of former member, Costas Papageorgiou, who lost his life in a car accident this afternoon, aged 58.
The deceased, who hailed from Larissa and was a professor of physical education, athletics coach was old. In addition, he served as an agent of the sport of gymnastics for many years, showing special dedication to the development of rhythmic and contributing to the emergence of great athletes.
Among other things, Costas Papageorgiou had been president of GE Larissa, a member of the board of E.G.O. and Chairman of the Technical Committee Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation.
The fatal accident happened just after 13:00 on the old highway Larissa - Volos, at the height of the intersection Halki - Platykampos and while at that time the area was heavy rain.
The two vehicles head-on collision resulted in the deaths of four people in total. According to existing information, in the same car with Costas Papageorgiou aboard his mother and aunt, who also died, like the driver of the other vehicle.
As a sign of mourning for the death of Costas Papageorgiou, E.G.O. decided to thwart planned for tomorrow (Friday 25/01) National team workouts in Athens and Thessaloniki.
