Anna speaking about the situation in Ukraine (she's from Crimea, which may become now a part of Russia):

I'd really like a translation of what she says. What's happening seems really tense and worrisome... Neutral

Also, something I've always been curious about…

The etymology of her family name seems to imply that she has a Crimean Tatar ancestor from far back. "Riza" seems to come from the name 'Reza' and "atdin" definitely comes from an Arabic laqab "ad-Din." The -ov/-ova part of course comes from Slavicization of the name. While she herself may not identify as Tatar or Muslim or what have you, would it make sense to say that someone from her father's side of the family once was? The majority of the people I know with "atdin" in their surnames tend to come from Central Asia even if they look more Russian and European than they do Turkic or Central Asian…

Juuuust curious...

Edit: I received a message so I should clarify that I have Arab Christian friends who have ad-Din in their names as well so the etymology is not strictly Islamic. I also hope no one uses my speculation as a reason to send Ganna any form of discrimination...

In short, she says it's a very difficult time for the team, but they've showed fantastic results last year so they can't affort loosing it, plus, there is an ukrainian school of rhythmic gymnastics there (in Crimea) and there are around 300 pupils there. They're all afraid what will happen, as next day that part of Ukraine may become a part of Russia - as far as I understood the whole team is going there each year for some time to train, so this year they may not go because of the situation.

Rizatdinova is really brave, continue performing even her birth place is in crisis.

Maksymenko and Mazur also come from Eastern Ukraine, if I remember correctly Mazur's hometown in at the border. It such a bad situation for all of them and the Ukraine.

Maksimenko comes from Zaporozhie, city at the south-west of Ukraine, and Mazur comes from Lugansk, no, it's not on the border, but it's close to it.

I know Rizatdinova's father Sergey is a sailor (like captain or something like that, i am bad in their terms). In that video was told her family could move to Kiev. I think it's for the best, because Anya's mom is a very useful person for the group, she can help them a lot!
But of course I feel really sorry for Crimean RG school...

Thank you! I love that ball routine. Ball is her best apparatus.
