Hi Caroline...
I'm a little confused Embarassed
... the link that Gym-Fan post explains how to convert *.mov files, not to compress... am I right? Embarassed
If you want to compress the file you can use WinRar or WinZip... if you want to convert the files you can use this program: Ultra QuickTime Converter (Conver MOV,QT,MP4,M4V files to AVI,MPEG,VCD,SVCD,DVD) you can find it in www.aone-soft.com ... you'll need a username and registration code that you'll find here: http://www.serials.ws/index.php ...

Hi,
i've converted these two mov videos to divx avi format:

http://en.swoopshare.com/file/499466aff91f04e374f99c0f7ad6b771/6923-5_70.AVI.html
http://en.swoopshare.com/file/c632a4addadaa6474d18bedded85f6a3/6919-8_70.AVI.html

ps. You must have Divx codec installed on Your computer to see divx files.
if not, it's free to download and install.
You can also see my last videos in Miss Valentine 2007 topic or ask for any other uploads,
with best regards, Einar

Hi, if You can't handle with divx files, use these wmv ones:

http://en.swoopshare.com/file/ba0df45dae8c9119419f0c75b532e746/6919-8_70.wmv.html
http://en.swoopshare.com/file/2c09ed241d140552469d107f31f1c277/6923-5_70.wmv.html

feel free to ask any question about video or audio converting, editing.
with best regards, Einar

hi,
although this topic was created by video converting purpose, not compressing and may be this is not a right site to discuss about video compressing. I see lot of gym fans shooting with their miniDV cameras allways and i recommend to use a new generation high definition H.264 video encoder for Your videos archiving. It gives very close to original miniDV format video
quality with 10X smaller file size. I used it to archive all my Miss Valentine 2007 videos, although divx compression
videos gives 25X smaller file sizes. The only bad thing is it's not a freeware and there is not any freeware players or plugins for common video players until now. Quicktime 7 claims to play H.264 encoded videos, but i don't tested it yet. May be anyone is capable to download and install it or use help of some known ponytail guy. You can test my video and tell me result.
here is one H.264 encoded video:

First the good thing: it is free, for example
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/x264_Video_Codec.htm
and
most players will play it if you have the ffdshow codecs installed.
If you don't like codecs and things the best solution is VLC
( http://www.free-codecs.com/download/VideoLAN.htm ),
a free 10Mb player that needs nothing except a video to play.
And as an extra it allows you to convert between formats.

H264 is a very recent codec with very few applications using it yet
which means that you have to convert to xvid or mpeg to see it on TV.
Also chances are that it still will change before it is a stable standard.
With the new generation of cheap (120euro) big size (400 Gigabyte) external hard disk drives also the need for extreme compression is maybe not that big anymore ( H264 is intended for use with cellphones, video-ipods, PDAs etc).
As with pictures the rule is: the less compression the better 'IF' you have the space for it... Wink

A small (1Mb) video to test your H264:
