good point kaja, but i bet you if teodora alexandrova or anastacia guseva put on a tap shoe and tried to turn on a hard surface like this girl they would be in with a fighting chance of 15-20 pirouettes |

By the way, how do gymnasts practise their pivots???
In my country, the coach just ask us to turn and turn and turn, but I think it's not effective
So, is there any effective way of practising??
Any suggestions? _________________ Love RG ^^ |

personally i think the most effective way of mastering a turn is to practice lots and lots of balances in the position that you want to turn in, eg. attitude, and get the position perfect, because it only takes a slight thing the take the balance out of the turn and throw you off, then also lots of practice on the action of the head (spotting) and the technique of the turn...also practicing the actual turn with your coach and them picking out little things that could be throwing off the turn eg. a bend in your body or where your arms are...turning is something that usually the best have a natural aptitude for, but its definately possible with hard work to have nice clean multiple turns...sometimes i think it has to do with the shape of your legs and your physique, some physiques have a more natural ability to turn, but i think the main thing is practice...one of my ballet teachers told me the other day the australian ballet asked Angel Corella an amazing dancer from the American Ballet Theatre to come and teach them his secret for turning, in practice he easily does between 20-30 turns...and he said he had a natural ability but he worked on it and practiced untill he had mastered his technique and understood exactly where his body had to be in order to spin... |

For pivots, you need great centre (strength in all the stabilization muscles in your stomach/back) and ballet is a very effective way of achieving this. _________________ And those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who could not hear the music |

o.O .. wow!!
A bit off-topic, but talking about pirouettes..
This girl performs 5 different pirouettes in her bb routine, including a double pirouette with leg above horizontal (only gymnast in the world to do that skill) and a triple (which she stuck in warming up).

I'm trying to figure out the RG difficulty value for those fouettes, but it's a little hard to count correctly.
I think the value would be 4.9 points.
For the pirouettes, it would be 7.3 points! (this one was much easier to calculate) _________________ I have a gymnastics blog again. Here we go. toomanyamanars.blogspot.com |

I think tap shoes help a lot. Now I'm going upstairs and get mines out of the wardrobe |
