I went over them @ my gymnastics summer training program. There were some very odd ones we went over.
for instance, we learned a "side coaasck balance" and a "back attitude balance in cossack". There were some others, but I dont remember them.
What are some you know of? |

Those Cossack balances were already in there.
I think the vast majority of the new difficulties are all flexibilities.
Anyone think we'll actually see a Toe-Up Wave to a Back Scale? _________________ *Elegance is an attitude.* |

In the former code, there was an "arch leap 360 degrees" . Insane, but on this new code, it is just "arch leap 180 degrees". |

I bet Kapranova trains it for ages allready. She does all the back bend pivot variations so why not this one?! _________________ RG is the true reason to go on in my life! |

I like the most of the new difficulties, because gymnasts have to train with both sides. What I don't understand is why the "old" flexibilities are so underescored. Split with trunk at the front = 0.1??? So it's as hard as, I don't know, a body wave standing, or rotation of the trunk with the leg at the HORIZONTAL???
How much will be D1 value for Inna?? (If she continues next year) I don't want to see only back bends and circles without help in a ball exercise. I think that legs flexibility is deeply underescored in this COP.
But I like jumps and pivots, above all jumps. |

I'll be cringing during that one. Ouch! |

It's not in the 2nd version of the COP though - thank god someone had the sense to get rid of it. _________________ http://www.youtube.com/Tahnee2612 |

I think that tables of difficulties are easy to use, but maybe making the difficulties a bit more free could be better, because we could see more combinations, different ones. For example, more pivots ending in flexibilities or balances (attitude ending in split with trunk at horizontal).
But I like that getting a 10 is almost impossible, that way each gymnast has to improve as much as she can (also in apparatus difficulty) |

I have mixed feelings. On one hand, I like that there are only 12 body difficulties in a routine, but on the other hand, with so few difficulties to fill out 10.0 points I worry that gymnasts will feel that they have to do the same, highest value difficulties to get those numbers. I don't think we'll see as much variety in the selection of difficulties as I would like to see.
Also, they're going to let the gymnasts do an unlimited number of 'A' value difficulties. So while having six fewer difficulties in a routine frees up more time and opportunity for choreograpy, many a gymnast might still put as much as 4 or 5 or however many 'A' value difficulties she can do in her routine for the apparatus difficulty bonus each one would bring.
I think I would rather have a set number of difficulties that count toward the Difficulty score and then let the gymnast have a maximum of, say, two more difficulties in the routine for apparatus value--they wouldn't be given body difficulty value so the gymnast would select them only with her choreography and composition in mind--the way body difficulties used to be selected. _________________ *Elegance is an attitude.* |
