I speak some Japanese! I recommend practicing hiragana first until you know it by heart, and then moving on to katakana. Make sure you clarify what parts of phrases are keigo (polite speech) because that's what teachers will teach first. DO NOT USE ANIME AS A SOURCE TO LEARN THE LANGUAGE. I can't stress that one enough. ^^;
Since Japanese is an agglutinative language, and uses an SOV sentence pattern, don't rely on the grammatical structures of other languages or else you'll become really really lost and confused.
よく勉強します!
(Study well/hard. Yoku means well/hard/often and benkyou (the kanji) is the noun for the act of studying and shimasu is a polite present/future tense conjugation of the verb 'suru' which means 'to do')
Feel free to message me any time if you're confused!
Now does anyone have any advice on maintaining one's skill with French? I was writing a message yesterday and stopped dead cold because I forgot how to conjugate 'faire.' ^^; |

^Maintaining it......even though I don't speak my native language as well as when I was young to maintain my understanding I just listen in to my parents conversations and DON'T TRANSLATE IT IN MY HEAD! I think that's a very important part to learning another language.
When I started learning French I would pronounce every syllable of the verb conjugations in my head to remember the spelling (but obviously said it correctly out loud). You could listen to music but when listening to music to learn another language, I would recommend catchy children's songs. Also reading children's books and movies at first is more helpful at first than reading and watching regular, more advanced things.
I think doing this like once a week (everyday is even better) will help it stick. Good luck!
HWAITING!! XD
By the way, I recently took an interest in Korean as well. Do you speak it? _________________ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBZtHAVvslQ |

I'm learning Korean on the side! They don't really encourage the English teachers to learn it because they want students to learn by example? (It's proven to be better for younger children to learn this way) buuut, we all end up studying Korean anyways because...we have coworkers we have to communicate with and...grocery store people...life in Korea in general. xD
It's the same pattern as Japanese, so I didn't have much difficulty with forming sentences or picking up ideas. But the hardest thing for me is pronouncing things correctly...still.
So...I barely speak it. I speak it enough that I can point at something and ask how much it costs. xD |

hey thanks !!!
I am already learning my hiragana (I am starting in September, but I want to learn my hiragana and katakana by heart before ^^ I want to improve quickly) :p
I am writing everyday one hour and half about 10 hiragana to remember them
Actually I studied Hungarian which is an agglutinative language too ^^ So I already learned to "logic thing" of a such language and I think the grammar will be quit similar now
you know that in France Japaneses culture is present everywhere lol, especially with young people (thank you mangas ), so instead of anime I can watch Dramas. It is more polite, but a bit more boring lol well it's Shôjo ^^
Kanji seems to hard for me at the moment, I will wait my courses before learning them :/ really hard :/
about french skill ! take a look at this website
http://leconjugueur.lefigaro.fr/
you type the verb and click on conjuguer and you know to conjugate it
It is useful I think. It's a kind of bescherelle, but of course the real book is better
Feel free to send me a message too ^^ I 'm French, can try to help !
I appreciate your help, thanks again !!
why do I never learn an easy language, close to mine.... lol _________________ instagram.com/coolmadgick1 |

Not to sound pushy but....LEARN IT, LEARN IT, LEARN IT while you're still there!
I can only say 'thank you' (the 'goh mah wah' version) and 'yeah' and a hanful of other words (mostly English cognates like 'pineapple'). And that's only because I watched a cooking clip with Kim Hyun Joong. _________________ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBZtHAVvslQ |

It can be easy for speaking because there are only 4 tones in Mandarin. But some may have difficulty pronouncing these two pairs of initials: (z, c, s) and (j, q, x), especially when they are followed by 'i'.
In fact, I somehow can't explain how difficult it is even having it as my third language. _________________ Click here to download my mixes.
