But when u look at the Ukranians..or even the belarussians..they pretty much stay the same size..just grow longer. |
I think it has to do with the fact they have weigh-ins every day, a few times a day. Deriugina is very strict about weight since she believes if you gain even a little bit of weight it gets harder to perform, your stamina gets worse, and the risk of injuries is bigger. I mean most of them are at the gym all day every day, but it might depend on the conditioning Deriugina has them do, or it simply might be the fact they have to be weighed every day and don't wanna disappoint the coach. I remember she was livid when Maximenko gained a few kilos.
P.S. You might just have to watch the documentary about Albina Deriugina on Youtube to get what I'm saying, she's super strict about it. _________________ ♥ Bessonova, Kondakova, Dmitrieva, Rizatdinova ♥ |

It's much better to weigh yourself once a week at the same time.
Do you have a link to the documentary? And is it in Ukrainian or Russian? _________________ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBZtHAVvslQ |

Miteva.
She doesn't have long legs, but she's a gorgeous gymnast.
Japanese girls are often also short muscled (like Webber).
Julieta Cantaluppi. |

Laura Jung - her legs are quite short compared to her body, which makes them look big |

Wow, totally forgot about Polina Kozitskiy, who doesn't have a bad body at all, it's just that her legs are pretty short.
And Chrystalleni Trikomiti as well. _________________ "What gives me confidence is the fact that everyone gets insecure" - Andrew Garfield |

I think it's unfortunate when a gymnast doesn't have the "right body" becuz i feel their career in RG is very limited. Unlike in artistic..if ur longer..or a little awkard u can kinda hide it. But Body line is so important in RG, and the judges have a specific look they want to see. I wish they would change to code so gymnast who don't have such balletic bodies can get difficulty in other ways. Miteva is incredibly graceful. I don't think she has the best bodyline..but she can really pull off what she does, but she is sooooo undervalued in her gymnastics. |

Agree you, Cirilio... Pretty much I stopped covering AG, cuz of the short muscley robot body types (and monotonous fx routines). Only Svetlana Khorkina and Nastia Liukin seemed were exceptions to the AG body mold that has evolved since the time of Marylou Retton.
You are also so correct about RG judging being wayyy less forgiving re bodyline. Most notable exception has to be Alina Kabaeva (as a child gymnast, was it I. Viner that described her as little box, like a "tv set"?) But whew, did Alina ever have the skills and charm to make up for her body type.
Lastly, re Silviya Miteva, you are so correct! From first seeing her at Queen Margarita Cup, Varna 2002...I said to myself, here is a gymnast with world class skills. Then Silviya stayed on and pursued her dreams after Simona and Bety left. In person, what a lovely personality. Bulgaria is sooo lucky! |

I noticed that Boyanka Angelova seemed to have very short legs. But then again, I don't know her height.
^You stopped covering it because of the way they look?
Viktoria Komova has very nice lines compared to most artistic gymnasts. _________________ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBZtHAVvslQ |

I'd rather think that it's interessting to think about girls who made the best out of their potential thank's to their and their coaches hard workv - priviliged body shape is a help but hard work is a must for everyone anyway! _________________ RG is the true reason to go on in my life! |

To an extent, Ira Tchachina. Even though she was slim, she was tiny, and not naturally flexible. _________________ "Olympism is a doctrine of the fraternity between the body and the soul."
