I always washed my toe shoes (by HAND) after using them, until my coach and someone else said you definitely shouldn't wash toe shoes. She said the dirt even helps them somehow. I stopped washing them and now they're SO dirty and smelly I'm not sure if they were right. Could you tell me what you think? Should you wash toe shoes or not? I'm really not too sure and would love to get your opinions as soon as possible Smile Thanks!

I've never washed mine. The more you wear them the comfier and better for turns they get. And if you wear tan colored toe shoes the dirt shouldn't really be that visible

OK, thanks a lot guys Smile So I guess not washing them helps your pivots somewhat, but washing them won't hurt them. Glad to know at least I wasn't ruining my toe shoes by washing them Smile

I wash mine every couple of months or so, but I don't scrub at the bottom of the shoe. I mostly just clean off the top part. I also threw them in the dryer once for 5 minutes of 'steam sanitization' and it didn't do them any harm.

Hi, I've just found this topic, and I'm very surprised. I never heard anything about NOT washing shoes, rather the reverse, in fact.

But well, I'm not training in RG but in ballet. And I definitely wash my canvas toe shoes, by hand of course with a soft soap. My shoes are light pink...and our floors are either dirty, black, or both, so my shoes get that horrible greyish hue quickly enough. I think the floors simply colour our feet.

Of course we don't wash our pointe shoes, but it doesn't matter because they usually don't last long enough to get really dirty.
