I remember reading somewhere that she converted from Islam to the Russian Orthodoxy in 2007 when she started working at the State Duma. Is that true?
I kind of just assumed that because of her parents' background that she was raised either Muslim or irreligious...sooo... |
Kabaeva's mum is Russian (Orthodox Christian)and her dad is Tatar (not Uzbek). She was brought up a Christian and always has been. Btw, I don't really see what religion has to do with working in the Duma |
That's why I wanted to ask! It seemed really off when I first read it but I couldn't find any information on how she was raised or what she follows or whatever so I kind of just found myself at a standstill with answers. I only knew that her mom was Russian and her dad was Tatar and that she was born in Uzbekistan so for all I know she could've been anything in terms of religion. (Don't know why I never asked before HERE, this has been in the back of my mind for years now ) I'm glad I finally got a confirmation of some sort lol, no more rumors...in this department anyways...

Yes, I remember she used to cross herself in the Ortodox way. I don't know if Islamists also do this (since they also believe in Jesus). |
Muslims do also believe in Jesus, but they have a different interpretation of his story. They don't cross themselves because they believe it goes against their central monotheistic belief. So I guess it's safe to assume she was Christian from the start? |

I read somewhere on Alina Kabaeva's website that she reads the Bible and was influenced by Irina Viner on religion and Christianity. Also, I read somewhere (probably Wikipedia) that she converted from Islam to Christianity right before the 2004 Olympics. I wish I had the links for proof but unfortunately, I'm just relying on memory.
I read a few articles about her new "love interest" and the coincidences of her documentary, Putin's divorce, and Sochi's 2014 OG. I am only following this because I like Alina Kabaeva, but I really hope she doesn't become Putin's new wife...no offense, but I think she deserves a different type of man. Of course, I don't know Kabaeva personally, so I don't really know what she likes, deserves, etc. But, here in USA, the rumors were in newspapers I read this week like Post, Daily News, etc. lol. |

I don't think that's true... Alina's always been Christian and Viner is Jewish. _________________ Jon |

Hrm.. this story is definitely getting around. GymCastic, which primarily covers just AG news, mentioned the rumor on their podcast today. They also brought up the ongoing FIG investigations and someone commented: "The continuation of this 'sport' seems like an awful lot of bother, just to keep Vladimir Putin happy." _________________ Tumblr |
